Today (Wednesday), a four-day International Conference on affordable housing starts in Eindhoven.
Experts in the field of architecture and urban development from the Netherlands and abroad will be in town. During the Academy of Urbanism (AoU) Congress, there will be workshops, walking tours, and lectures. Participants will explore how growing cities can also remain places for less well-off people.
Eindhoven’s selection as a host city is nothing strange. The city was elected to second place during the Urbanism Awards 2017 as the European City of the Year. The jury praised Eindhoven for its successes after years of economic crisis. Also, the city’s attention to affordable housing was mentioned.
Experts who visit the congress will also take a tour of, among other places, at housing constructions in Woensel West, Meerhoven, Strijp-S, and Strijp-R. Speakers from England, Denmark, and South Korea will also bring attention to the theme of affordable housing in growing cities.
Previous conferences were held in Birmingham, London, Manchester, the Danish Aarhus, and Cork in Ireland.
