Monday afternoon, it was announced Robert-Jan Smits and Nicole Ummelen will join the Board of Eindhoven’s University of Technology, starting next year.
The Supervisory Board of the university appointed the two as new members of the Executive Board.
This means that together with Rector Magnificus Frank Baaijens, they will become the new executive team. The new members will succeed President Jan Mengelers and Vice-President Jo van Ham. Mr. Mengelers and Mr. van Ham retire in 2019.
Mr. Smits will be the TU/e’s new chairman. He is a former director of the General Research and Innovation Program of the European Commission. At this post, he was the architect of a large-scale EU innovation program. Ms Ummelen is currently Secretary of the university.
The new board will aim to further improve the university’s position at an international level.
