Following new measures for sustainable construction and air quality in school buildings set by the government, construction costs have shot up. Alderman Miranda Verdouw claimed she was unaware of the increase in costs, while other council members felt they should have been consulted on the budget sooner.
Renovations of the old building as well as partial demolition were proven to have been causes of the increase in costs. The city council will meet next month to discuss further financing options for the construction.
