Eindhoven Beursgebouw to close

Eindhoven’s Beursgebouw will close on 31 December 2019. The reason for this closure is, that using the building for events is no longer profitable.

Eindhoven’s Beursgebouw opened its doors in 1991. Initially for ten years, because Eindhoven lacked an events and trade fair venue. However, the building remained open much longer.

Management of the building also mentions Eindhoven’s municipality, as a reason for its closure. “Over the past fifteen years, the municipality of Eindhoven supported and facilitated other, similar initiatives. We do not believe, this is in keeping with agreements made.”

For example, in 2016, the venue’s director dispatched an angry letter to the municipality. Eindhoven’s municipality had decided only a limited number of large events could be hosted at the building.

A stark contrast to the Klokgebouw. Klokgebouw was granted more exemptions and was allowed to organize more events. Due to this and the fact the Beursgebouw no longer meets contemporary requirements, it is no longer profitable to keep the building open, according to its management.

Agreements made with trade fair and event organisations will be honoured. The rents of the seven tenants of commercial spaces in the building will terminate. The closure of the Beursgebouw will not result in forced redundancies.
