Help for illiterates at polls

In Eindhoven from now on illiterates will receive help when casting their vote during elections. Eindhoven council decided on this recently.

So far blind and partially sighted people did get additional help, but not illiterates. The City Council finds that this group also should get support.

This could be for example a person who can accompany someone in the voting booth, with the official permission to cast a vote for someone else.
Also, Eindhoven is taking part in an experiment, in which ballots are developed for specific target groups, such as illiterates.

The next elections will be the coming year. Dutch citizens may vote for a new House of Representatives (‘Tweede Kamer’)
