Try a tri!

Triathlons are for everyone

I’ve heard people say that triathlons are only for proper athletes and the super fit. But why? Perhaps it’s because of the distance, or that you have to complete three different events in one? There are actually quite a few options with triathlons, and they are completely doable for first timers, as well as the more experienced among us.

Swim, Bike, Run

If you can do these three things then there’s no real reason not to try a tri. To be honest, I am one of those people who think you’ve got to be a bit crazy to do a full triathlon. A 3.8km swim, followed by a 180km cycle, followed by a 42.195km (yes, a full marathon) run is not my cup of tea.

But on the other end of the spectrum, there are also sprint distances. According to Total Triathlon, sprint distances can vary from race to race, so it’s worth checking your local events to see what they offer. A common sprint distance is a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run. It’s not a bad challenge at all, is it?

Try a tri in Eindhoven? Sure can!

Well, technically, the local triathlon is in Nuenen, but that’s close enough, right? Squadra is holding the Dolphin Triathlon on Sunday, 2 July. There are a number of options , including a kids-parents triathlon, a mini triathlon, and 1/8 and 1/4 distances. There is also the option to compete as a team. So if you like running, and you have a friend or colleague who likes swimming, and another who likes biking, then you’re all set!

Swim – Run

Another possibility is the Swim-Run, and two of these are coming up soon. There is one in Nuenen on Saturday 1 April (no joke ;)), and another in Eindhoven on Saturday 15 April. Again, there are a number of different distance to choose from, including one for school students (group 5 and up). The swimming leg of both events is held indoors, so you don’t have to worry about any possible chilly spring temperatures!

Interested?

Further information about all events can be found on the Squadra website (in Dutch only) but you can contact them directly if you would like to know more in English.
