Because hospital staff is on strike next Wednesday, operations at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven will be cancelled.
The hospital announced that there would not be normal services in, among other departments, Day Surgery, Operating rooms, Endoscopy, Intensive Care, and Medium Care. Strike action has been planned in these divisions.
It is not yet clear exactly which operations will be done and which will be cancelled. The hospital is still trying to figure that out.
Staff are striking for a better collective labour agreement. According to the trade unions, the hospitals have a shortage of staff, and that affects the workplace. That is why hospital workers want improved salaries and better agreements, on among other things, working hours. The strike action means that next Wednesday a Sunday schedule will run.
“Catharina Hospital respects employees’ rights to take action. There is constructive consultation with the trade unions and the action committee to be able to provide safe patient-focused care on the day of the strike,” the hospital let it be known
“The hospital’s focus is that, during the strike, good patient care is maintained at all times. Also, that emergency care always continues. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable that the announced action in the departments mentioned will have consequences for our patients.”
Hospital personnel will be on strike in other Dutch cities too.
