With the number of passengers at Eindhoven Station increasing, the municipality plans to install 300 bicycle racks on the north side of the station and 100 on the south side.
The move is part of an effort to combat inconvenient placing of bicycles in other parts of the station, such as over tactile paving used by the blind.
Next year the municipality will build a three-floor bicycle park with space for 5000 bikes. The park will be guarded and free for the first 24 hours, with facilities including electric bike chargers, a referral system for free activities, bicycle repair, and special zones for ‘outdoor model’ bicycles such as cargo bikes and bikes with crates.
Plans are already underway, with the bike park due to open in 2020.
Furthermore, the municipality continues to invest in the Heuvelgalerie’s bike storage. The current space will be refurbished early next year and converted to a high-low bicycle storage unit, with charging facilities for electric bikes as well as bicycle repair.
