Philips to close last halogen lamp factory

In August the Philips lamp factory in Aachen will close its doors.

With the shutdown of the last place where the Eindhoven company produced halogen lamps, 158 jobs will be lost. According to local newspaper, Eindhovens Dagblad, employees have been made aware of the shutdown.

A company spokesperson said the closure is a direct consequence of the rise of LED lamps and the disappearance of halogen lighting. From 1 September it will be prohibited to sell halogen lighting in the EU.
