No more childbirths at Catharina Hospital

As of 2018, no more childbirths will be taking place at Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, according to the health insurance companies.

The hospital’s website stated that the health insurers want the hospital to keep concentrating on their specialty, Oncology Care, and to further specialize in cardiovascular diseases. According to the health insurers, this is important since the expertise in these areas already exists in the Catharina hospital.

Furthermore, there are not enough childbirths which require medical interference in this hospital, according to the health insurers. Therefore, the hospital is presently investigating to see which regional hospital would be best suited to receive the Catharina Childbirth department.
