Local celebrity rediscovers family feeling thanks to TV show

Eindhoven businessman and singer, Johan Vlemmix, participated in the Dutch TV channel, SBS6’s, programme, “Steenrijk, Straatarm” (Extremely Rich, Desperately Poor).

In the programme, which is broadcast on Tuesdays, rich and poor people exchange homes for a week. Not only that, their income and the accompanying way of life are swopped for that one week. Vlemmix exchanged homes with the Möller family from Ederveen, which is in Gelderland. The family, consisting of a father, mother and six children has to get by each week on just EUR35.

Vlemmix found the experience very special and surprising. He has decided to move to a smaller property after the week in the Möller family’s house. “During the days when I was staying with my son in the small house in Ederveen, I got that family feeling again. A big house is not important. On the other hand, family is the most important thing”.

The Eindhoven resident found it an exciting challenge to live for a week on EUR35. “I could actually switch well, but still, you have got to get used to it. For example, you can not have two beers in one evening because you can only afford one”. Nevertheless, Vlemmix prefers not having to pay attention to his way of spending. “This is no longer fun if you have to look out for everything and you should always maintain this”.
