VDL training own welders and mechanics

Due to a shortage of qualified welders and fitters, VDL has decided to educate people itself.

The courses are two-year education and work-projects on MBO (senior secondary vocational education) level. Apart from the fact that VDL in Eindhoven is paying the training costs, the participants are paid a full-time salary and, after finishing the training, they get a job at VDL.

In the first half of this year, VDL has taken on 1,100 new employees. However, the company has another 500 job openings due to the fast growth of the company. With their training programmes, the company is said to give people from other sectors the chance to be trained as a professional in engineering.

Companies in the high-tech Eindhoven region have a deficit of professionals and engineers to meet the growing needs. One of the pillars of the Brainport Region is, therefore, also further attracting and educating talent.
