GroenLinks has asked questions to the outgoing cabinet about the influence of the business community on the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The opposition party raised these questions after the university scientists published a concerning letter in the university magazine, Cursor. One of the main points was related to the freedom of expression.

GroenLinks wants to know from the Minister of Education, Culture and Science whether he considers it desirable for the CEO of ASML, Peter Wennink, to be chairman of the university’s supervisory board. The faction points out that, as ASML CEO, Wennink is also one of the largest employers for TU/e graduates.

Democratisation

The House of Representatives faction is advocating a fund in which companies can donate to research at TU/e, whereby the fund also ensures that there is sufficient social value in research requests. Finally, GroenLinks wants the participation council to have more say in the appointment of university administrators, in order to make the university more democratic.
