A military dog named Conan will receive a hero’s welcome at the White House next week. Conan was involved in the US operation to kill Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of terrorist group, IS.
According to the president, Donald Trump, Conan will leave the Middle East next week to travel to the White House. In anticipation of the event, Trump tweeted an edited photo of Conan wearing a medal.
Conan underwent part of his military training in Best, the Netherlands. His trainer, Marco van Hoof from Hondenadvies Centrum Nederland (Dog Advice Centre, the Netherlands), says he instantly recognised Conan when he saw him on the television. The centre assesses dogs to determine whether they have the necessary character to work for the police or army.
The Pentagon released video footage of the attack on al-Baghdadi in Syria on Wednesday. Conan was injured during the attack on al-Baghdadi, but has since returned to work, reports the Ministry of Defence.
