Monday afternoon, government and industry employees meet in Eindhoven’s Stadswandelpark. Like NS-employees, they strike to try improve retirement-agreements.
National NS strike
Earlier this morning, no trains ran to and from Eindhoven. NS employees started their Monday morning strike at 06:00. This national strike lasted exactly 66 minutes. The reason: employees want the retirement-age to be frozen at 66 years
Retirement age and better retirement-conditions are demanded and unions negotiate about these conditions. However, negotiations between NS and unions broke down, recently.
This morning, trains started to run from 07:06, but NS warns travellers need to check the NS website. Delays, as well as shorter and thus very crowded trains may last throughout the day.
NS was not the only company where employees went on strike. Other public transport companies throughout the country also faced strikes, or other actions.
Eindhoven participants meet at Stadspark
At Eindhoven’s Stadspark, personnel from industry, transport, education and social employment sectors meet this afternoon. FNV trade union members working for DAF, Ikea, Picnic and other companies will address the strikers. CNV member Johan Slok, as well as MPs John Kerstens (PvdA) and Martin van Rooijen (50Plus) are present.
Union FNV states, the retirement age should be frozen at 66 years. According to the trade union, personnel who do heavy work will otherwise suffer. In addition, retirement-benefits (AOW in Dutch), should increase just as wages do.
