Counterterrorism police take over Utrecht

Twitter explodes over Utrecht shooting that occurred at 10:45 this morning. A suspect opened fire in a tram station at 24 Oktoberplein. The incident has left many injured and one person killed.

Prime minister Rutte reacts “I am deeply concerned”. Mark Rutte is holding crisis talks following the suspected terror attack.

Utrecht Police has not ruled out a terror motive behind the shooting. The suspect is on the run. Sources say the shooter might have escaped in a car. Counterterrorism force is combing the area for the possible suspects. Meanwhile, all schools have been advised to stay closed with the pupils inside.

One witness told NOS that he saw a woman very badly hurt and unconscious. While another eye witness clarifies that the shooting started on a tram. A man unprovoked got up and started firing is her statement. However, we have to wait for Utrecht Police to give us confirmed news. Though the most important factor at the moment is only the safety of the citizens and arresting the gunman. Utrecht University Medical Centre to open a dedicated emergency ward to help care for the injured.

This shooting on the wake of New Zealand mosque killings creates social unrest and wors,t fear of backlash. It is very important to stay human especially in such difficult times.
