Looking for the cool new place to eat in Eindhoven? Look no further, FAB just opened it´s doors!
Hailing from Finland, Riku and Vesa have lived all over the world before opening their own restaurant in Maastricht in 2015. Bringing American cuisine, with a focus on Californian flavours but also adding some Mexican style dishes, to the Netherlands was a bit of a challenge but after experimenting with different flavours and dishes they came to a menu full of American classics with a modern twist. And now they are bringing these flavours to Eindhoven!
Opening their second restaurant at the Kerkstraat 16 in Eindhoven, Riku and Vesa chose Eindhoven because, just like Maastricht, it’s a city with a big international population and a cosmopolitan vibe but with a small-town feel to it.
I had the honour of checking out FAB and trying some of their dishes and was pleasantly surprised. First of all, you can eat here all day long! They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and open at 08.00 every day of the week and even serve an all-day breakfast platter because it proved to be very popular.
If you are like me and want to get your money´s worth when you go out to eat then FAB is a great place. The portions are substantial but never too heavy because of the quality and freshness of the ingredients and are all very reasonably priced.
One of the things that also makes FAB a cool place to eat with friends is that many of the dishes are shareable. Take the sliders (mini-burgers) for instance, they come in all kinds of flavours and you can order per 2, 3, 4 or 5 so it´s a great dish to share with friends and an opportunity to try as many flavours as you like, they are delicious so you´ll want to try them all. And if you are thinking ´but hey, i am a vegetarian, what about me?´ don´t worry, next to vegetarian slider options, the rest of the menu also offers plenty of meatless options. Try the avocado roll with a side of the crunchy sweet potato fries for instance, nomnomnom! If you have any room left, try the homemade red velvet cake as dessert, devilishly delicious. Oh, and they also make their own drinks like home-made lemonade, iced tea en ginger ale. Also worth noticing is the super friendly and attentive staff. Riku has a background in hospitality management and it shows.
All in all, I think that FAB is a great addition to the Eindhoven food scene. It has a great low key cool metropolitan vibe that the up and coming centre of Eindhoven deserves. The official slogan of FAB is ‘Welcome to flavour´ and believe me, they live up to that.
