Logistics industry: huge shortage in skilled employees

The logistics industry in the Eindhoven region suffers from a huge shortage of skilled, trained, qualified employees.

This huge shortage is affecting businesses. This year alone, companies expect to have vacancies for between 1,000 and 1,700 new employees.

ED, regional paper Eindhovens Dagblad, cites a report by local municipalities and companies. Transport and logistics companies are not just looking for drivers and loaders.

Businesses are also looking for for instance planners and team leaders. The demand for skilled personnel will remain high during the next few years.

The surge in vacancies is caused by the current economic growth. Innovative technology companies are also seen as boosting economic growth and causing this increase in vacancies.

The huge increase in web sales, increases demand. An ageing population is also affecting the logistics branch. Meanwhile, the number of young employees is decreasing. These factors cause a steep increase in the demand for employees.

Eindhoven‘s MBO Summa College has even applied for extra funding, to help solve the problems together with local business community.
