Eindhoven Airport expects to handle more than six million passengers this year.
The airport anticipates a growth of about ten percent. In 2017, the number of passengers was 5.7 million. This year the expectation is half a million more. In the first three months of this year there is already a growth of twelve percent, compared to the same period last year.
According to Eindhoven Airport, the growth is due to more flights, more destinations and fuller aircraft. Ultimately, the airport expects to reach 39,500 flights this year. A limit of 43,000 flights will apply until 2020.
This year, the airport, local residents and regional municipalities will sit down to make agreements about the maximum growth of the airport after 2020. Eindhoven Airport wants to grow, but many local residents are afraid of air pollution and noise pollution. Ultimately, the minister makes a final decision.
