Municipality examines permit for construction collapsed garage

The municipality is verifying whether the authorization for the construction of the collapsed parking garage at Eindhoven Airport has been issued according to the rules, Mayor Jorritsma said after questions by opposition groups in the City Council last night.

Jorritsma calls the collapse “a very regrettable incident ‘. The municipality will not deploy a private investigation into the cause as it is being held by construction company BAM. In that research the municipality will include the results concerning the licensing.

The Research Council For Safety will come to Eindhoven Airport on Wednesday for an exploratory visit. Afterwards the National Research Council will assess additional investigation.

Jorritsma stressed that she does not want to speculate about the cause of the collapse of the garage. Only when the investigation into the cause has been completed, conclusions can be drawn. Then it should become clear who can be held responsible, the Mayor said.

Furthermore Jorritsma pointed out that the traffic situation on and around the airport is being viewed continuously. The past few days gave rise to traffic jams, because the area around the garage is deposed. The Mayor assured that additional measures will be taken, if necessary.
