Eindhoven to address flooding in city

In response to questions asked by political party LPF in the City Council, the Mayor and Aldermen have announced that the municipality is going to take extra measures with respect to water drainage during extreme rainfall. This should help prevent more flooding.

The Boschdijk tunnel and the tunnel next to the Mediamarkt have already been flooded several times this year, which worried the opposition party. In the new sewerage plan the municipality is going to pay special attention to the increasingly extreme weather conditions in the Netherlands.

A number of practical solutions have been developed in order to tackle the problem. One of the more striking ideas is to ‘de-pave’ the city. Green roofs and removing unnecessary paving should ensure that nature will absorb the water more quickly.
