Tosca at the Parktheater

“Tosca” is one of the highlights from the oeuvre of the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The piece is regularly found in the repertoire of the world’s greatest opera houses and rarely in the history of opera have we encountered a more passionate heroine. The story of Tosca deserves flamboyant staging, something the Opera Zuid is masterfully capable of.

Rome suffers at the hands of the brutal police chief Scarpia, who has set his sights on the celebrated opera singer Floria Tosca. Then he finds out that her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, offers shelter to the former consul of the city, who is a fugitive. Scarpia takes him prisoner and tortures him. Tosca cannot bear to hear the screams of her lover and reveals everything…

The opera is sung in Italian and has Dutch subtitles.
