Residence permit for Mauro

The Eindhoven asylum seeker Mauro finally gets permission to stay in the Netherlands. The Ministry offers him a residence permit, according to NOS (Netherlands Broadcasting Foundation).

National news largely covered Mauro’s story two years ago. Minister Leers wanted to send him back to Angola at the time. Eighteen-year-old Mauro arrived in the Netherlands at the age of nine and was taken in by foster parents. He has been living in Limburg and Eindhoven. After the public outrage that followed the minister’s decision, Mauro obtained a student visa which enabled him to stay temporarily. In the meantime, the political landscape changed and the visa was turned into a residence permit, based on the new amnesty for child refugees.
