Aaah, summertime in the great city of Eindhoven is almost coming to an end so let’s make the most of the few beautiful and sunny days we have left. If you’re like me you don’t like the too crowded terraces but prefer the more intimate, cozy ones. Luckily, Eindhoven offers a great deal of these kind of places if you know where to look.
Almost everybody who lives in or around Eindhoven knows the Effenaar (Dommelstraat 2) as a music venue but did you know there is also a great cafe-restaurant attached to it? They just renewed their terrace which now has a cool industrial vibe to it while still feeling intimate. Nice selection of wines, wide variety of (local) beers and very friendly and attentive staff. Feeling hungry? They serve lunch (great burgers, also vegetarian!) and also have some very nice salads on the menu for those warm summer nights.
Even though Calypso (Stratumseind 83) is located on the main going out street of Eindhoven (Stratumseind) it has created it’s own little bubble of tranquillity mixed with a whole lot of cool. Calypso has a great terrace which is always vibrant and buzzing. Just a really nice place to kick back with a drink and a bite to eat and totally forget about the concept of time. My personal favorite for the summer is their vodka mixed with rose water, absolutely refreshing and delicious. Oh, and on Wednesdays they do Bingo!
Want to shut out the city completely? Have dinner in the lovely garden terrace of restaurant de Karseboom (Grote Berg 10). This will feel like you’re having dinner in your own garden only with much better food (and probably more people). When sitting here you will forget that you’re in the centre of Eindhoven, it’s so nice and secluded. The staff is friendly and the food always freshly made and honest. A great place to wind down and relax.
Of course there are so many more lovely places in Eindhoven. These are just some of my personal favorites to visit on those days you can leave your house and don’t need to take a jacket, even though you’re coming home at 2 a.m. after too many vodka- rose water cocktails 😉 Enjoy the summer in Eindhoven!
