Athalia is considered the first large English oratorio. Its performance before an audience of 3700 people in 1733 was very successful. Its powerful choruses and the rich orchestration made quite an impression and set the tone for a large series of successes. Athalia, however, unjustly fell into oblivion. Kempenkoor now resumes the tradition and – with the help of professional musicians – brings to life the magnificent dimensions of this work.
