The opening of the new Eindhoven theatre ‘Straffe madammen en makke mannen’ (Powerful ladies and meek men) at the former NRE site, planned for tonight, has been cancelled. As a result of leaks the theatre will not be ready on time.
The leaks were discovered two weeks ago, during a major rainstorm. According to Frans Dillen, the founding father of the theatre, the auditorium floor was completely flooded. This was caused by the ‘mysterious’ disappearance of the lead sheeting on the roof.
Dillen is one of the pioneers who is trying to revive the NRE site. The theatre is going to offer Flemish and Dutch youngsters, who have just graduated from art school, the opportunity to gain experience. The opening has been postponed to Friday 16 May.
