Despite wind and rain nearly 2000 visitors for torchlight procession

Wind and rain seemed just to throw a spanner in the works, but in the end, about 2,000 people participated in the traditional torchlight parade on 24 December.

The fire department didn’t allow stalls to be set up at the Wilhelminaplein because of the heavy winds. There for the organization of the ‘fakkeltocht’ placed containers to hand out the torches.

It is the 22nd edition of the torchlight parade. In past editions overall 5,000 people took part each time.

In 1993 Eindhoven students dedicated the procession to the victims of the attack in German Sölingen. Since then, the event is held for peace and tolerance. Alderman Torunoglu and the Turkish Consul addressed the visitors this year.
