Eindhoven’s city council is not yet ready for its new tasks concerning youth care. This comes from a joint survey by the audit committees of Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda and Den Bosch. The councils in the other cities are also insufficiently prepared.
As of January 2015, the national government will transfer the responsibility for youth care to local governments. The preparations for this transition are well underway, but a lot of things remain unclear.
It is not entirely clear what national legislation will be like and what budgets local governments will get to work with. According to the audit committees, it is the financial haziness that local councils are tripping over right now.
The survey is meant to give the council members some pointers, in order for them to execute their guiding and monitoring tasks, in the area of youth care.
According to the researchers, it is important that the city councils take action fast, prioritize and define practical goals with regard to youth care in their own community.
