Eindhoven has again been nominated as ‘Sportgemeente’ (Sports Town) of the year. This is the eighth time the election has been organized by the Sports Association and Municipalities (VSG), NOC*NSF and the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG). Eindhoven was also nominated in 2006.
This year the ‘City of Lights’ is competing with Aalsmeer, Arnhem and Veenendaal. Arnhem has won the title in 2011.All Dutch municipalities can vote for one of the nominees. A jury of managers and directors active in the world of local sports and physical activities will ultimately determine who wins the title. The winner will be announced in Delft on 25 September. The Sport City of the Year for 2013 will receive, apart from the title, a packet of flags and a sum of money to spend on local sports initiative.
