Eindhoven will be a beehive of activity for the next week or so. Starting tomorrow, it is estimated that about 400 000 people will visit this city over the next nine days for the increasing popular Dutch Design Week (DDW).
With exhibitions, workshops, food events, music and so much more, at 110 locations around the city, there is sure to be something for everyone. All the choices may be a bit overwhelming, so included are design routes. Various experts have, at the request of the DDW, put together theme-based design routes. These can be done on foot, by bicycle, or even in a Volvo Design Ride. Some of these routes include:
Hidden Gems Bicycle Tour
On this tour, you can see promising designers and extraordinary projects in the most surprising locations. This is a guided tour to see the ten hidden gems of the week. The daily three-hour tour begins and ends at 14:00 at 18 Septemberplein, and in conducted in, both, English and Dutch. The EUR 45 cost includes the use of a KOGA bicycle, a expert guide, in the form of Robert van Rixtel of Dutch Design Daily, and refreshments. Food Heroes Design Tour
The future of food is not, solely, about food production and consumption. This gastronomically-themed tour, is a list of events put together by Marije Vogelzang. They include the Farm of the World: Natural Forces exhibition, the Brabant Living Lab, and the Embassy of Food: Creative Food Heroes dinner, to name but a few.
Robot Tour
Koert van Mensvoort from the Next Nature Network recommend robots enthusiasts to visit a route that includes the Algorithmic Museum, Studio BECK: All possible interactions exhibition, and the Transnatural Art & Design: Robotanica Expo & Label Showcase in its ten stops.
