Nuenen must house 7 more refugees

The municipality of Nuenen must accommodate 7 more refugees with a residence permit this year.

Last year the municipality failed to successfully house all refugees with permits, with seven still to receive housing this year, bringing the total number of housing status holders to 37.

The Mayor and Aldermen designated the Witte-Hondenpad in Nuenen as a preferred location, where the council would like to see up to 20 homes.

Half the homes should be inhabited by status holders, with other half made available to other house-hunters through housing corporation Helpt Elkander (Help One Another).

A large number of status holders also live in vacant houses let by the housing corporation, with the rest going to private and commercial dwellings.

Nuenen is also tackling language barriers with refugees, with the help of volunteer language coaches. The municipality is also in talks with a local language school.
