Justice wants prison sentence for death threat against mayor Van Gijzel

The department of justice is asking the court for a four-month prison sentence (of which one would be conditional) against a man who threatened to kill mayor Van Gijzel.

The threat was made in front of a parole officer. The suspect allegedly said he would buy a gun if he had the money and would then ‘shoot the mayor in the head’, according to the prosecution. He also allegedly said that he’s been watching the mayor for some time now and that he knows exactly when he’s present at city hall. The man was arrested for making the threat on 22 February; he is still in custody. The court will rule in two weeks.
