Arrival of Sinterklaas went off smoothly

The arrival of Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) in Eindhoven went smoothly. Thousands of children and parents welcomed the good saint at the canal on Saturday. There were more than 150 police officers on patrol.

Sinterklaas arrived in Eindhoven at 12.15 with his helpers. Despite the announcement and threat of demonstrations, they were subsequently cancelled. The mood remained very quiet during the whole event. In addition to Zwarte Piet (Black Pete), there were also glitter pete’s, sooty pete’s, even gluten-free pete’s and circus pete’s this year!

A police agent informed Studio040 that there were more than 150 police officers present this year which was many more than at last year’s event.

Two arrests
On Saturday afternoon, the police arrested two people at Kanaaldijk-Noord. Both were arrested because they did not follow the instructions of the police.

Last year the procession got out of hand when supporters and opponents of Zwarte Piet stood face to face along the route.
