An Eindhoven resident, Frits Spits, has been chosen as the most important radio producer of the century. This was done by a professional jury of the VARA (Workers’ Association Radio Amateurs Workers Association) radio and TV guide.

This announcement was made on the radio show, Met het Oog op Morgen (With an Eye on Tomorrow) on NPO Radio 1. Spits is in the top 40 radio stars. This list was set up on the occasion of 100 years of radio in the Netherlands.

According to the jury, Spits is ‘one of the best mood creators and storytellers on the radio’. “I think it is great that I am part of the history of (Dutch) radio”, Frits Spits responds to the announcement. “It is a medium I love very much. […] I consider it an honour. I am proud of it. I think it is wonderful”.

Perfectly performed programmes

The radio producer is especially praised for his ability to attract a wide audience with his programmes. According to the jury report, “They are then perfectly performed with a wonderfully warm, friendly radio voice. And Frits does not rate his audience any lower, but rather wants to teach and give them something.”

The VARA Guide’s Top 5 radio stars are Frits Spits, Edwin Evers, Willem van Kooten, aka Joost den Draaijer, Felix Meurders, and Tineke de Nooij.
