The Eindhoven-based lighting company, Signify, is cutting 121 jobs at its site in Turnhout, Belgium. Several Belgian media outlets reported this.

Standard lighting is manufactured at the Turnhout factory. These kinds of lights are used in stadiums and for street lighting, among other things. The demand for these products is decreasing drastically every year. According to Signify, this is due to the rapid rise of LED technology. The LED lighting factories are located mostly in Asia, but also in Eastern Europe.

Trade unions are now discussing with the company whether the number of redundancies can be reduced. The trade unions also want clarity for the remaining personnel.

More than 530 people work at the site in Turnhout.
