New Eindhoven Marathon race to include litter picking

Eindhoven Marathon participants will be able to enter a new race this year, when the ‘Plogging Run’ – a combinaton of running and picking up litter – is held for the first time.

The word ‘plogging’ is a portmanteau of the words ‘plocka’ (Swedish for packing) and ‘jogging’. The day before the marathon, groups of runners will follow an approximately 6km path on the marathon course, collecting litter on the way.

Marathon director Edgar de Veer said many runners were “generally very aware of nature and the environment” and that the new race would help “make Eindhoven even cleaner”.

Participation in the plogging run is free. Gloves, bin bags, and pegs will be provided. The run starts at 10am on Saturday 12 October at the Beursgebouw (participants are expected at 9:30am).
