There are plans for the construction of three comprehensive SPIL centres. These are to be built in the Eindhoven neighbourhood of Achste Barrier. These plans have been in the works for several years now.

One of these playing/learning centres, De Spaaihoeve, has since opened its doors. The Eindhoven Municipality and school boards expected to complete the awarding of the tender for the building of the remaining two centres this year. “This, however, does not seem feasible,” reads a press release issued by the Eindhoven City Council.

“Rising construction prices and budgetary restraints have ensured that the planning phase is taking longer than expected,” states the release. “That is why the Municipality and the relevant SKPO and SALTO school boards are in discussions.” They want to see how these plans can be made a (financial) reality as soon as possible.

Two centres still to be built

The twee SPIL centres concerned are at De Klapwiek in Normandiëlaan. This will include a Korein Kinderplein. The other is at De Achtbaan in Fransebaan. Here, there will also be a Little Jungle Childcare centre. The Gunterslaer and Klimwijs primary schools have already merged in anticipation of the construction of this centre.

The plans for these SPIL centres are part of the Integraal Huisvestingsplan Onderwijs (Integrated Education Housing Plan) 2016-2019 for primary education. This agreement was made between the Eindhoven City Council and the school boards in 2015.

De Spaaihoeve in Heraultlaan was the first of these SPIL centres. It was opened in October last year. It also houses the Jena Plan school, Onder de Wieken, and a Korein Kinderplein special school childcare centre.
