The heatwave plan has entered into force at the nursing homes in Eindhoven.
The elderly are an extra vulnerable group, just like very young children and chronically ill, during this week’s hot weather. That is why the nursing group, Vitalis, is implementing additional measures.
For example, all the curtains in the rooms will be closed, additional water points have been installed throughout the Vitalis buildings, and the elderly get an ice cream every now and then. The residents have also been asked to wear light clothing.
The national public health institute (GGD) in the Eindhoven region also emphasizes that the elderly must be extra alert to overheating and dehydration. That is why the health service recommends keeping the home cool, drinking enough fluids, and keeping yourself cool by wearing thin clothing.
On the weekend, various schools in the region announced that they would be implementing a hot weather schedule, and therefore start and finish earlier in the day. PSV football players also started training earlier on Monday.
