It is 2.5 hectares with more than 11,000 solar panels. A huge solar park was opened at Eindhoven Air Base by State Secretary for Defense, Barbara Visser.

The panels must supply electricity to 900 households in the area. Only residents living around the airport can buy a panel. In the meantime, 800 residents are already participating in the project.

In this way, residents can contribute to a sustainable world, and do not have to install any panels on the roof of their house. The initiative also originated as compensation for residents for the nuisance and pollution caused by the airport.

The park is a collaborative agreement between Eindhoven Air Base, the Municipality of Eindhoven and the Co-operative, Zonnepark Welschap. Five local energy cooperatives and associations are also involved. This piece of land was previously used by a gliding club that left a few years ago.
