A fire completely destroyed a building used by technology company Prodrive along Ekkersrijt, at Son’s Science Park. The huge fire raged in the building during the weekend.
The fire started around four o’clock in the morning. In no time, several floors were on fire.
Smoke soon enveloped Son en Breugel. The huge fire and billowing smoke caused residents to receive an NL alert. This alert warned them to close all windows and remain indoors.
Fire-fighters tried to enter the building and extinguish the fire from within. This proved to be too dangerous. The only option was to try extinguish it from outside. The fire was under control by Sunday morning.
Prodrive manufactures high-tech equipment. The company has several buildings at the industrial estate.
The gutted building housed offices. It was also partly used for storage and production. The damage is enormous. The damage was not just caused by the raging fire, but also by smoke and water.
