On Christmas Eve, a drunk driver not only had to give up his driver’s licence; he also tried to steal a police jacket.

According to the police’s Facebook page, the man was stopped in Eindhoven for drinking while driving on 24 December. He blew 1100 Ugl on a breathalyser – high enough so that he had to surrender his licence immediately.

After the formalities were completed at the police station, the man was allowed to go. A police officer then discovered his jacket missing. They tracked the man down again to find that he suddenly has quite a large belly. The man was hiding the police jacket in his own coat.

The man was promptly arrested for theft and had to spend Christmas Eve in a jail cell. When asked why he did it, the man said he did so as a joke. The Public Prosecutor found it less amusing and gave the accused a €450 fine.

A judge will soon decide on his punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol.
