The family business ‘Bakers Zitten en Wonen’ (‘Sitting and Living’) on Kruisstraat in Eindhoven is 100 years old. As of Tuesday, they will celebrate this with their customers.

In 1918, the shop was founded by Moeke Bakers, the great-grandmother of the current owner, Max Bakers. The Bakers family has been selling seating furniture for four generations, and the fifth generation even helps in the shop now and then.

With the 100-year anniversary, there is also a new name and logo for the furniture store. After having been called ‘Bakers Zitmeubelen’ (Seating Furniture) for 40 years, Max decided to give his business a new image. “We sell more than just seating furniture. We also have rugs and dining room tables”, Max says.

Apart from the name, the house style and collection is renewed and thus also ready for the next generation. Max’s parents also celebrated the occasion. “We are very proud of our son and our family business”, Yvonne Bakers, Max’s mother, says. “It would be great if the fifth generation of Bakers were to finally take over our business but my grandchildren may decide that for themselves”.
