The Geldrop-Mierlo Town Council’s Executive Board is discussing a monument for the 100-year anniversary of the right to vote.

This meeting will take place on Monday, 10 December. The local branch of the GroenLinks political party wants to erect a commemorative sign at the Town Hall.

Focus attention

The party thus wants to focus more attention on the right to vote. Regarding the local elections of 2018, slightly more than half of the inhabitants of Geldrop-Mierlo came to vote. At the last provincial Council elections even less than half of the inhabitants showed up.

GroenLinks wants to make clear with this monument that by establishing the right to vote for both men and women, democracy only really got to mean something.
