VDL is going to build all-terrain vehicles for the Defence industry.
The Eindhoven-based company is manufacturing more than 500 vehicles, commissioned by Mercedes-Benz. These are vehicles that are suitable for transportation by helicopter. The cars will appear in three variants. There will be an infantry version, ambulance version, and one for logistic purposes. The cars are equipped with, among other things, radio and communication systems and storage spaces for soldiers’ equipment.
Prototypes will be developed and tested until 2020. Thereafter, the cars will come off the assembly line.
There are tens of millions of euros at stake with the order. If the Defence industry is satisfied, the order will be expanded with the construction of a further 500 vehicles.
In recent years, VDL has already received large orders for the construction of surveillance vehicles for the police, and vans for the Mobile Unit.
