Van Bommel: do not complain about the pitch

The focus should be on the game, not on the pitch.

Trainer Mark van Bommel said that last night in the press conference preceding the Champions League-game of PSV against Tottenham Hotspur tonight.

That game is played in the Wembley stadium. But since an American Football Competition was held there a couple of weeks ago, there is a lot of commotion about the pitch. Part of the grass has been lost and in some places, there is mainly sand. But Van Bommel finds no reason to complain.

The pitch is not something you can control, he said. “It’s a situation you cannot prepare for, because that’s the way it is, you should not complain about it at all.”

PSV and Tottenham Hotspur compete for third place in the group. The Spurs are expected to put pressure on the Eindhoven team throughout the entire match. Does Van Bommel depend on counter attacks? “We are able to do that as well,” says the trainer, “we have multiple weapons in our team, and of course we prefer to dominate, but you do not want to be pushed back, but sometimes you are forced to do so.

The game kicks off at 21.00 tonight.
