Glass laboratory Philips closes after 101 years

Philips’ old glass laboratory at Strijp closes permanently at the end of the year.

During the closing exhibition ‘Glass, the fascination remains’ visitors and former employees can take a look at this historic site for the last time.

The glass was developed for, among other things, light bulbs and TV screens. There was a different recipe for glass for everything. Millions of products went all over the world.

But the times of the Philips glass are over. The TV and lighting division have been divested. In recent years the glass factory has been used by small companies such as Atelier NL from Eindhoven.

The exhibition about glass can only be seen this coming weekend. What will happen to the lab after that is not yet clear.
