With an exhibition about architect Pierre Cuypers (1827-1921) yesterday, the kick-off has started for the special anniversary of 150 years Sint-Catharinakerk (St. Catharina church).
There are sketches of the renowned architect that give an idea of the development and origin of the Catharina church. And there are also church objects of the workshop where church interiors, including those of the Catharina church, were manufactured. The exhibition will be opened by culture alderman Schreurs.
Throughout the year there are celebrations about the 150th anniversary. There is a special program booklet that was presented yesterday afternoon by Eindhoven’s dean René Wilmink. There are several exhibitions and not just about the church itself. There is also an exhibition about the area of the church that has changed dramatically over the years.
The highlight is the anniversary weekend on 2 and 3 September with concerts and a performance of the guilds. Furthermore, the Catharina church gets a spectacular light show during the festival Glow.
The exhibition about Pierre Cuypers is free of charge. It lasts until 30 June.
