With the arrival of SolaRoads, roads with solar cells are a step closer.
The Eindhoven company Solliance has recently worked with the Chinese Hanergy, specialist of thin and flexible solar panels. Those can be used in roads. Soon there will be a pilot project on the cycle route between Tilburg and Waalwijk.
Solliance director Huib van den Heuvel is excited: ‘Solar cells in the roads are not exactly new, but at the same time we see that it can be profitable. The goal is now to further develop SolaRoad. ‘
In Noord-Holland, tests have been made with a solar cycle path since 2011, and now there is a bicycle path in Brabant. The province of Noord-Brabant is also enthusiastic. ‘We are ready to carry out pilot projects at different locations in the coming years’, says Deputy Anne-Marie Spierings of Sustainability.
