Eindhoven gets centre for sexual violence

Victims of sexual violence will soon be able to turn to Catharina Ziekenhuis (Catharina Hospital). There will be a Centrum voor Seksueel Geweld (centre for sexual violence) there.

The Government has provided money to make sure that there will be a nationwide network of sixteen centres. There will be one in Eindhoven and one in Helmond.

The municipality chose Catharina hospital as a location because there already is an extensive range of expertise in the field of treatment of victims of sexual violence. Above all it is easily accessible because of the geographical location.

In the Netherlands almost a million people have ever had to deal with sexual violence in their lives: 1 in 8 women and 1 in 20 men over 18 years of age.

Forty percent of them has had mental health problems with big consequences: relational problems, failure at school and work, addiction problems, high (medical) care and repeated victimization. The efforts of a centre for sexual violence can greatly improve the help and approach.
