Concrete plan for TAC building preservation due before summer

Efforts are being made to preserve Eindhoven’s TAC-building (temporary art centre) on the Vonderweg after it faced demolition ahead of extensive construction projects scheduled in the next five years.

Over a thousand homes, a city park, and catering establishments are due to be constructed in the area between the Philips Stadium and Witte Dame in a joint project headed up by the city council, housing corporation Woonbedrijf, and two real estate developers.

Eindhoven’s city council has commissioned Culture Alderman Depla to ensure the TAC building, home to around 80 workshops and a large exhibition area, retains its historical and cultural value.

After talks with land owners, the Van Abbe Foundation, and the TAC, Alderman Depla is due to present a concrete proposal before the summer.

Preserving the building in its entirety is likely to cost millions of euros in excess, the Alderman said, affecting other construction goals such as low-cost housing.
